Hello Ladies and Gentlemen,

Today I am posting the first update and 'suggestion box' of 2016. This might get a little confusing so if you have any questions please feel free to ask. As always your opinions and feedback/suggestions are always welcome, however we do not welcome or permit harassment or arguing in these topics.

Topic 1: Ancient Reset

First and foremost, we would like to discuss the new server world 'Ancient'.

Due to some unforseen glitches in the world generation protocols, a vast amount of overly-rich veins of diamond, redstone, iron and coal ores have generated into the world. In addition some large and some HUGE towns generated which included large quantities of flags, chests full of items, pistons, beacons etc.

Because these have all generated in, we have found many people settling into these 'towns' and areas, and many have even given up as everything has been handed to them. Why would you want to go on a massive mining adventure when you can find stacks of diamonds within 5 minutes?

We would like to reset the Ancient world with the corrected generation systems. Anybody who has started a town will be awarded with 16 Bonus Emeralds to ensure you can re-found your town after the reset.

** We may be able to offer a transfer service for large builds that players have been working on where they do not include a pre-existing town or structure, the chests and other storage units within the build would not be removed and you are in fact the builder/owner of the area in question. Please also note that inventories and Ender Chests will be reset to keep with maintaining an even playing field.

Topic 2: Mod Elections

It has been a belief for a long time that the moderators would serve to pick the new moderators with the administrators making the final decision. However we think its time that the members get a little bit of power back for this process.

We would like to do a series of elections to select a 'Member Representative' who would be apart of the moderation team for a 'term'. This term could last between 1 to 3 months at a time (This hasnt been decided) and would be from 5 randomly or voted upon (Not yet determined) runners.

The member with the most votes at the end of the 'election' will be appointed moderator and be given the same powers and responsibilities as a moderator including being apart of the moderators closed group discussion during their term. Elected moderators who abuse their powers are subject to immediatly being removed and possibly being banned from the network.

This rank is in addition to the existing moderators and will not prevent permanant mods from being chosen in the future. The current elected moderator will always be automatically added to the next election to be given the opportunity to 'defend their title'

Let us know what you think of this or if you have an alternative suggestion to the process.

Topic 2B: Helpers Instead of Moderators

Many say there is a large concern about popularity contests and abuse of power, these are the reason this hasnt been introduced to this day and proves the maturity of the community as a whole when considering such changes. An alternative would be a helper rank with only certain powers. If you preferred this option, please submit your ideas for what powers and responsibilities these users should get.

Topic 3: Financial Stability

As everyone knows, it costs a good amount of money to run the server. Most of the features we operate are free for all players, however we need to incentivise users to 'sponsor' the server financially.

If you were going to donate, what would you want in return?

Please post your ideas on items or features you want offered in the shop as well as pricing that you think is reasonable. While all suggestions are welcomes, silly suggestions will be ignored or perhaps even removed. We honestly want the players to have their say and would prefer to avoid small groups from ruining it for the larger groups.

Some Suggestions by others:

  • /fly - $100
  • 1 x Spawner (Actual Spawner, Not Egg) - $50.00
  • New Kits
  • New Custom Items
  • New shops where emeralds can be traded for items

Some Confirmed Changes:

  • Classes that are currently for Premium/VIP will be made available PERMANANTLY for $5.00ea
  • A new world exclusivly for Premium/VIP Members
  • Server Currency will be fixed in the next update to reflect the change to emeralds from virtual dollars.

Changes in Discussion:

  • New ranking structure expanding to up to 6 different ranks including the current 3 (Prem/VIP/VIP+)
  • Player Shops where players can setup unattended shops to trade goods with other players

Topic 4: Difficulty

As commented in the first topic, difficulty is an issue that plagues survival servers. As they exist for longer on a single map, they become easier, and as such more boring. What are your suggestions as a community as to increasing the difficulty to prolong the current map? This may be suggesting plugins (We are wary when considering new mods, dont be offended if we dont do it) or changes to features such as delays on teleports etc.

[Clarification Posted January 13th]

Topic 1:

We have realised that players are fleeing to the Epic World with their items, as such both worlds are now up for reset due to this bug. However the offer to move builds minus a select few* items still remains and if enacted, will be followed through. Town Mayors will receive a calculated refund based on their town size at the time of the original post (It will not be 100%)

Many are saying that they got the emeralds legitimately and that they didn’t mine them in a huge mine. I would like to remind everyone that the *majority* of villagers spawned in the premade towns and allowed people to easily and quickly trade for emeralds. Many towns have hundreds upon hundreds of spare emeralds as we speak (2 weeks after the reset!?) and several have over 1000.

This is all because the server glitched in the world generation and did not give us an expected output. We clearly feel bad about the situation and want to resolve it amicably, but handing it all back after the reset defeats the purpose.

Topic 2:

I was not clear enough, my error in writing has caused a lot of votes based on misinformation.

'Candidates' will be selected by the moderation team under this scheme. The vote will pick from the candidates. The candidate who wins will always be apart of the next 'election' and have the chance to maintain their spot if they have earned it in the eyes of the server. This applies for either the Moderation or Helper ranks.

Topic 3:

We want to sell meaningful items that add value to your experience. If we sell a kit with 100 Mob eggs for example, yeah that might be fun but then you will never explore for that/those animals again. You will become bored of that aspect of the game. Even selling 2 at a time ensures the same halt in gameplay. That is why we sell mob eggs one at a time.

The example goes for all, we do not want to give you such powerful armor that it never breaks and you become content with beating everything and everyone. There is no challenge or continuity in that. It simply leaves a stale and boring game in its midst and you will likely go back to playing Mini Games.

True suggestions that are fair to the experience of survival and fun gameplay will honestly be considered and you may see it go live. If your idea is good enough, we will even give you a sample of the product :thumbsup:

Custom map generation is good but please stick with vanilla ore generations. Also, to be fair, you should remove the chests in those towns, and probably other rare items like beacons.

 

[Topic 2]

Mods should be selected by the administration group after careful consideration. You can perhaps have the [Helper] group selected by the community. These [Helpers] can help players with towny and lwc issues and maybe mute or kick players, but not permanently ban them. Leave the long term banning to mods and admin after they discuss the issue. 

 

[Topic 3]

I don't mind the extra addition, but prices may be to much. Please reconsider the prices and perhaps add more commands like crafting bench /craft, ender chest /echest, private chest /pv,  /hat, /pet, etc.

Great suggestion on new kits, and in game shop, and will be nice if we can create our own shop.

 

[Topic 4]

Difficulty is fine as it is, or maybe respawn 3 ender dragon daily like a mini game for the server. Spawn a Gaint or a Wither at a specific location/Arena daily.

 

[Topic 5]

A chest of emeralds has gone missing from my house, would be nice if you can replace it. Thanks.

Personally I don’t mind having the ancient dimension reset since it does have a lot of pre-generated towns that people have moved into. And the diamond mines/coal mines are absolutely ridiculous. I would just hate to lose all the plots that my town has worked hard to get. It is a fair amount of emeralds to have just go to waste. It would also be a shame to have my storage area disappear since a lot of work has gone into it.

 

I do enjoy the smaller towns that have been generated on the server, I would recommend keeping some of them but reducing their rate of generation if possible. And definitely keep spawn the way it is, a lot of people enjoy running around spawn looking at all the builds.

 I don’t enjoy the thought of this simply because it’s going to turn into a popularity contest and I can see a lot of issues/drama starting because of it. Not to mention there are a few people that I believe shouldn’t become mods based on past/current issues which might end up being voted in because they are part of a “popular” group of users.

 

However; if this was to be implemented, I do agree with Craftengineer about a “helper” group. If anything; bring back trial mod but change the ranking title to [helper] or something. Allow the people that are voted in to do everything that a mod does; kick, mute, check out griefs, assist with towny; everything except jail/ban players. If there is a jailing that needs to be done; have them discuss it with a mod first.

Definitely voting yes to changing the difficulty of the server. I suggest readding some of the custom mobs that we had last map. (definitely need to bring back penguins; I miss those little guys)

I'm voting no on both of these and not just because "I always vote no".

 

On the second one I do think some people might find a way to abuse the system in some way just to get "a friend" in or them self even...

 

On the first, I don't think it's that easy and I've been to all 4 edges of the map twice already. with all this adventure I've found not even 1 beacon, I could probably tell the ore counts in a normal pirate town and white sail ship because I've run into enough to know white ships have 26 emeralds and the towns have none. If anything I'm finding a lack of things, I'm finding tons of empty chests and it's easy to think "maybe they were found already" and that's what I thought too in the beginning. But when I go into a temple looking place, build a bridge over the lava pit, disarm the traps, dig through the lapis/gold/quarts pyramid and place more water for the lava there to get down into the secret room just to see its yet another empty secret room... That isn't what I'd call overly easy, and its not just there it's happened in the large towns that look like spawn, those cemeteries are empty just like 100% of the other chests in there even the secret room that I wont point out how to get too because why spoil it. That's not saying maybe there are some very lucky people out there but its definitely not normal, I would have seen something by now if it was normal with how much adventure I'm doing.

topic1, still a no with the same reasons BUT I did just hit a 32 diamond vein above ground so I can see how that might be a problem. I also see how this is a good thing because once all these easy diamonds are gone we have to work hard to find the meat that's left especially with the money of the server, these emeralds don't regrow once it's gone that's it. Plus we do still have to make tons of new gear or pay for repairs by paying diamonds on the anvil dwindling the supply. what about other Golems, diamond, gold etc? That would burn the surplus quick.

 

topic 2, still no, same reason.

 

topic 2b, if handles right could be a good thing I've seen the helper thing handled both ways before so yes on that.

 

other topics 3&4, 3, I don't really care about the money stuff, want spawners or a new exclusive world or whatever then go for it, I don't have the money to spend anyway so I don't have any real input. 4, as long as I don't have a wither or dragon blowing up my house then sure, sounds good.

I would have to agree, it's not even been an entire week yet and there's already people with x2 the amount of wealth they had upon resetting and builds that aren't actually theirs. The game at this point couldn't even be too fun for people, or at least not for too much longer. It may be fun racing to the top to be the richest person or biggest town (or both), but it's hardly a challenge when it's all handed to you.  One diamond vein (in certain spots) yield more diamonds than a lot of people had on the last day of the previous map, that seems highly unbalanced. When it comes to the naturally spawned towns and buildings it's hard to say if they're a good or bad thing. Of course it's best if people go out, have an adventure, gather the items they need and make their town theirs down to the last detail, but some people can't or don't like to build, so having something to play around in might seem like a fun solution. When it comes down to it, you'll always appreciate something you've worked for far more than something that has been handed to you, places such as pre-built towns blind you from having fun. Those people who may have chosen to use a spawned town, are likely the same exact people who push for early map restarts, they do this because they get bored because they have nothing left to do. With having your town already established and built, there's little to no point in doing much else and then you'll get bored and by February you'll start asking for a map reset. Ancient doesn't HAVE to leave, it should in fact stay, modify the negative features. Maybe open it up once a month to players to explore or [Topic 3] sell some kind of tickets for people to gain temporary access 1 hour $10 (pricing is off). If nothing can be fixed or changed then it's best to just void it out completely and hope for something else to come in its place in at a later time, maybe something like the frozen or industrial zones from last map (with the effects that you're harmed for being there too long). If you have to have a place where resources are over-abundant make the risk just as high as the stakes, make it dangerous and worth the trip there.

For those who have been around for the past few years it's not a secret that we have had many changes in staffing over the years. So, this is an interesting topic for me..As a strong supporter of abyssal over the past 4years it has always been important to me that we have responsible, reliable staff members who can keep things in order while avoiding much conflict during the process. People who don't have favoritism when it comes to people breaking rules, who can look past your rank (member,premium,vip and vip+) and still make sure everyone stays within the limited rules and guidelines to ensure the server stays clean, PG, and fun for all! Ever since I started supporting the abyssal team I desperately wanted to be part of the team and help out more than my donations, I've always wanted to help keep the community safe and clean for all users; however this opportunity has yet to come to me, but there has always been a strong team and that's really all that matters. While it may seem like fun being in a leadership position, it can actually be very chaotic at times and literally everyone else comes before you do. Trying to build or mine something? Somebody has a problem? Guess what, you're going to have to stop doing stuff you want and take charge. You have an obligation, a responsibility to the community to make sure all the rules are being followed and any conflict is dealt with in a calm and collective way, it's important to be able to defuse a situation without getting angry or emotional yourself and arguing with the individual. When it comes down to it I'm always going to believe the current staff should vote on any new staff members.  There are certain staff members I feel should have more of a say than the others in any moderator selection system, whether it be the one currently in place or the one we're discussing now. I am not really for this whole election thing, but I am willing to give it a try. Let people help decide who they would like to see in charge could be a good thing, we won't know if we don't try.

With the new cosmetic shop coming out I may have some suggestions in regards to this: however it has yet to be release, so I can't actually suggest too much. It basically has packages of cosmetic points for sale to help people get gear quicker, but since I don't know how things are priced I can't provide much insight. Have let's say some VERY VERY expensive super awesome cosmetics for sale for 10,000 points, but you could also buy those points for $20 or something.
 

Sell individual enchantments for $5 each and a mega pack of x5 enchants for $20 any normal enchantments that someone could get using a forge, Eff 4+4 is Eff 5 could be bought for $5 instead. Maybe instead of having a per request system, sell tokens for a special shop that you can buy any/all enchants. In Addition to this, there could be Super Tokens to be able to buy special enchants such as fortune/looting/thornes,ect 5+ these would cost much more as the enchantment is much more rare, so maybe $20 each.

 

Purchasable (non-hostile) spawners, this includes all animals and villagers (would cost more then the animals)

Purchasable (hostile) spawners, this includes all mobs from the surface world, nether and the end (each would vary based on selection)
1x use dragon egg, for people who would love to fight a dragon, give them the opportunity! $5 per egg (egg would vanish after usage and none would spawn after defeat)
 

Future purchases of 3+ months of premium could come with a bonus, extra cosmetic tokens, in-game currency. ect.

A Premium based loyalty program, where the more months your subscription stays active, the bigger a bonus you get, bonus could be in-game currency or cosmetic tokens, maybe month 1 - 100 tokens, month 2 200 tokens, ect and at the 1 year mark you get a bonus of 5000.

 

There could of course be something for vip, and vip+ since they are lifetime members, maybe vip get 1000 cosmetic tokens a month and vip+ get 2000 a month and at the 1 year mark they get 10 ,000 and 20,000 respectively (again I can't really help design a realistic guideline on values without knowing what the prices will end up being) 

I would Love to /fly but not even the management can use that (aside from mickket and the admins), so if this were to become forsale/for rent it would have to be a considerable amount. I had previously suggested $100 for perma use, but looking now I realize that is rather cheap. Suggesting any price would probably be an insult and is best left for those in charge to figure out how much or even if it will become available.

Upgraded vip/vip+ compass use, for $50-$100 have a less limited compass, more features. Outside of specific areas be able to compass down or through walls, could add other unspecified features too.

I'm sure I've missed some and will post more as I come to think about it, this is a fun hypothetical topic for me!

Difficulty is a big issue for many users, but we have to remember that our main playerbase is children (or at least our targeted audience is). I would hate to see things forced on people who might find vanilla hard to traverse sometimes. This is not an attempt to be insulting, but I have read many times in chat where people have had problems with spiders, beefing up the current mobs system might be the wrong direction. I suggest we keep the epic region as it is until we reset the map again and instead have regions [Topic 1] in place of ancient that is meant to be difficult and gets increasingly harder, or add new regions month or bi-monthly that are harder than the previous. This would allow people who are after a challenge the chance to go die..As stated before these areas could also bring increased loot and each region would be better than the last. Adding new regions might prolong the life of the map, so those who are happy on the epic map don't have to lose all their hard work in 6months when people get bored. There could be a cooldown in place as there has been in the past for teleporting, but there could also be an option [Topic 3] where they can buy no cooldown from the online store, $5 a month or $30 for perma no cooldown. The cooldown shouldn't be anything crazy like some of them in the past have been, no more 5-10min cooldowns. I think 20 seconds to 1 minute is acceptable, but at the same time might be enough to make people spend an extra $5 for zero seconds. I would suggest a taxing system by month two or three of this map, but I know in the past plenty have struggled to make the daily limit and with emeralds being currency I think it'd be more trying. I don't feel it's especially fair that those people lose their town and have themselves at risk of grief over a simple mechanism. Also not everybody has time to get on to go out and find emeralds to meet the upkeep. I think if there was going to be taxes, there's have to be spawn shops where you can trade various materials for emeralds and thus eliminating the pressure some people might feel. Also I feel some people might not being having fun doing what they want if they're worried about losing their town because they HAVE to find emeralds instead of building that farm they wanted to do. Emerald system isn't bad, just need different ways to be able to earn them if taxes become a possibility.

With more and more plugins and mods being added there's bound to be several bugs, it's ill advised to exploit any of them especially any that could negatively effect the economy, additionally any person(s) caught from this point on purposely abusing a bug should be un-eligible as a possible mod elected official. Try to keep the game fun and fair by reporting any questionable glitches. It's very likely you'll get caught regardless how safe you think you are, so it's best for everyone if you report said problems.

If mods were to pick the candidates then yes, I believe it would be a great idea :) 

 

Extra suggestions...

With all the ore mines available, how about bringing back the shop like the old one at spawn so players are able to trade in ores for emeralds.

Also, slime fun houses on the last map made it really fun to explore the maps. The slime fun guide was a great way to keep preoccupied on the server as it wasn't easy to get the items but, they were worth spending a lot of time on! If something like that could be brought back it would be really cool :)

Auto sort was a really handy feature when organising chests too.

For the helper addition, it would most certainlynotmake a change. It would be quite pointless having it as an option, for people will just abuse the system.

Not really a good idea allowing favorites to be picked as part of the staff team.

I do not think the reset is a bad idea some of the things you can find and things that people have found are putting them at an end server tier. The only thing i have an issue is with is that with my town and where im building i have already had two weeks to settle in and start building, therefore this is a very frustrating situation for me myself and im sure others. If there would be a way to clear all chests i would much prefer that. With that said i do agree that some people are at the end tier already and we should do something about it.

Honestly i think it is kinda stupid to give the regular players powers to elect someone to be a mod without staff say. Like said before the popularity thing comes to play and then hurt feelings and such. There are so many members that do not meet the criteria to even become a mod. The age thing and past experiences on the server with jailings mutings and such. On to Part B, A helper would be a much better choice, although we already have players that basically do what a "helper" would so i think that is pretty much a pointless thing to do. Now my suggestion, maybe have a two part election system so that the regular players run for election and then the members choose two from those running and then they could become a trial mod and then we vote between them to see who is the best fit out of those and then that person become a mod or do the 1-3 months thing like suggested before, Or when the members vote for the two people we vote between those two and then that person becomes the trial mod, and then eventually a mod or what ever you want to do with that. We could also just say no to both canidates and the players wouldnt be able to run back to back of course. We would run an election every few months to elect a new one or to replace the previous one. Or we could find something similar to that. And of course that could still lead to the popularity thing, but it will happen regardless if we let members vote.

I think those are some good options, definitely expanding our online shops for exclusive type things would be great for growing. Though we have to watch allowing people to buy things that put then way ahead of other players then its basically the same as what we are in now. Maybe adding different rank levels and we could get a more expensive monthly payment one that offers more than the other so people can still have premium at the price it is now or have the chance to get something more.

Changing the difficulty would be great, maybe a periodical thing like the first month easy then a month of normal then hard or something like that. or voting each month on difficulty. As for additive things, bring back the boss mobs, harder dungeon like areas (given we reset one world), Maybe find a way to spawn different boss mobs like we can the wither.

i completely understand how some would feel that restarting ancient is the way to go and had this been a week ago maybe i would agree as well. my biggest concerns is how much thought and planning has already happened when it came to picking the spot and builds that have already been done. (i had a lot more written here and then somehow it all got deleted D; )  I understand how somethings that have helped some players get further in the game so soon may be something we may want to get rid of but there is also something things that some people have legitimately gotten and worked on for 2 weeks that also goes away... but either way i understand

i have the same worries that others on here have.... and that is this will end being a popularity contest and the candidates will be more about how much fun people have with them and less on wither they are cable of doing the job well. i do like though that you are trying to get everyone involved in things that are happening on the server. if there is a need for helpers that there some sort of way to ensure that the candidates are at least qualified.. either by having the mods pick 5 people and then everyone votes.... or you have everyone vote and the mods pick 2-3 out of the top 5 if you think they will do a good job and not just because they are known or well liked. having those responsibilities even it they are given less power should be taken seriously. Also maybe considering that there powers are to be able to be invisible and screen shot to report to abgn or the mods... or also things like if they have the ability to mute, it can only be for 30 min and no

more.

 

Also a thing some people were having issues were saplings.... some saplings didnt produce the type of tree that was expected and sometime when it did there were some leaves that didnt grow either that made it difficult to repopulate or to get more of without having to worry about getting rid of all of that type of tree... maybe if there were a way to make sure that if you use one sapling it makes the appropriate tree but if you wanted a bigger customized one you would use 4... if that is possible that is without making it too complicated

P.S. maybe we should consider a furniture type mod of some sort.... it will give players more motivation to build their own homes which in turn will give them something to do (credit: Ank :D )

Yes people have worked hard since the restart happened, to make some of their builds but I think most people are forgetting that there may be an option to transfer bigger builds. If given that option (provided all chests and ore are removed), would they change their minds?

[Topic 1]   Whatever happens here is fine with me.

 

[Topic 2]   This server is over working its few active Mods. There needs to be something to encourage players to develop the skills needed to Moderate the server. I think Mod helper would be a good way to get a number of players to start thinking of the server as a whole, and not just how they interact with individual players. Perhaps the Mods should select the candidates? Keep the elections simple. Have a minimum time on the server to be eligible to vote, so a large group of newcomers cannot skew the elections. Have a limit to the duration of the mutes and bans a helper has access to. Maybe have an ingame link to make it easer for players to make a report or request help. Yes, there is the potential for an abuse of power. But that potential is always there, and always needs to be watched for.

 

[Topic 3]   Having a newbie rank when you first come on the server, and then ranking up to member after playing a certain number of hours, would fit in nicely with being eligible to vote for Moderator helper.

 

 I would like to see a 'random' or 'grab bag' egg that has a chance of spawning a horse.  LOL you may have to buy several before you get that horse!

 /fly... if it is decided to have this one available to players, then make it for a limited number of uses.

 

[Topic 4]  Having changes in the game keeps things interesting. (The slimefun was a good one). Anyone that needs things to get more difficult to keep from getting bored should go to the Abyssal Feed the Beast Server.
